Nanotechnology is used to apply motor protein filaments onto different loading zones on a biocompatible chip and immobilised motor proteins propel the filaments into nano-size channels. A method for drug screening uses nanotechnology to control and locate motor protein function on a biocompatible chip. Motor protein filaments such as actin, microtubules or DNA are applied to different loading zones measuring e.g. 50 x 50 mu m2> in size and from these zones they are propelled by immobilised motor proteins such as myosins, kinesins and nucleotide-based motors in order to enter nano-size channels with a width of ca. 200 nm or less and a length of up to 1 mm. Independent claims are also included for: (1) nanoseparation technique based on the same principle; and (2) system for applying picolitre sample volumes to an area of a nanonstructured test surface that is about 10 mu m2>, achieved using a micropitte or micropipette array in which the pumping of liquid is controlled by piezoactuators and the positioning of the pipette is achieved using a piezoelectric system under optical feedback control through observation of the pipette tip. |
