PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the corrosion resistance of a magnetoresistive head and to maintain the high magnetoresistivity ratio thereof. SOLUTION: The magnetoresistive head has, as a magnetic sensor for detecting magnetic signals in sliding contact with a magnetic recording medium, a spin-valve film 40 having a structure where an anti-ferromagnetic layer, a magnetization pinned layer in which the direction of magnetization is pinned in a predetermined direction by an exchange-coupling magnetic field working between itself and the anti-ferromagnetic layer, a magnetization free layer in which the direction of magnetization changes in accordance with an external magnetic field, and a non-magnetic layer for magnetically isolating the magnetization pinned layer and the magnetization free layer are stacked. As to the spin valve film 40, the corrosion potential relative to a reference hydrogen electrode measured while being immersed in a NaCl solution of a concentration 0.1 mol/L is specified at +0.4 (V vs SHE) or above.
