1. A filter for a cigarette, comprising a fiber containing semi-opened micro-cavities said cavities being loaded with carbon and/or an amorphous silica gel. 2. A filter for a cigarette, comprising a fiber containing opened micro-cavities said cavities being loaded with carbon and/or an amorphous silica gel. 3. The filter as claimed in claim 1or 2, wherein said fiber is a trilobal fiber. 4. The filter as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein said fiber is a quadrilobal fiber. 5. The filter as claimed in any one of claims 1-4, wherein said absorbent/adsorbent particles are in a ratio to fiber in an amount from about1% to about 150% by weight. 6. The filter as claimed in claim 5, wherein said carbon to fiber ratio is about 20-80% by weight. 7. The filter as claimed in claim 6, wherein said fiber is impregnated with coconut carbon fiber having a loading factor of about 50%. 8. The filter as claimed in any one of claims 1-7, wherein the fiber has about a 3 denier per filament micro-cavity and said carbon and/or amorphous silica gel particles entrapped have a size of about 1 to 15 micrometers. 9. The filter as claimed in any one of claims 1-8, wherein said filter contains no binders or plasticizers or substantially no binders or plasticizers. 10. The filter as claimed in any one of claims 1-9, wherein said fiber is loaded with coconut carbon fiber and with an amorphous silica gel. 11. A cigarette which comprises a plug/space/plug configuration having a downstream plug, a space, an upstream plug and tobacco, wherein the filter as claimed in any one of claims 1-10 is loaded in the space and said downstream plug, said filter which is in said space, said upstream plug and said tobacco are encased in a wrapper. 12. A cigarette which comprises a plug/space configuration having a space, an upstream plug and tobacco, wherein the filter as claimed in any one of claims 1-10 is loaded in the space and said filter which is in said space, said upstream plug and said tobacco are encased in a wrapper. 13. A process to make the filter as claimed in any one of claims 1-10, which comprises mechanically mixing the carbon and/or an amorphous silica gel with the fiber such that the particles are entrapped in the micro-cavities. 14. The process for making the filter as claimed in any one of claims 1-10, which comprises electrostatically interacting the fiber with the carbon and/or an amorphous silica gel such that the carbon and/or an amorphous silica gel particles are entrapped in the micro-cavities. |
