The invention concerns a method for preparing an alkali metal insertion compound, which consists in carrying out the following successive steps: a) contacting an organic complex of a transition metal or of a mixture of transition metals M in oxidation state higher than 2, with an alkali metal A in ionic form, and with a species of formula Hb (X04), wherein X is selected among Si, S, Al, P, Ge, As, Mo, and b is equal to 0 to 5, in a liquid medium in a closed chamber; bringing the chamber to a temperature T which enables decomposition of the organic complex in said liquid medium; bringing the temperature and the pressure in the chamber to room temperature and atmospheric pressure and recovering the insertion compound of an alkali metal of formula AMXO4, wherein M is in oxidation state higher than 2.
