A process for industrially producing a 2-alkoxy-6-trifluoropyrimidin-4-ol in a satisfactory yield without causing environmental pollution, in contrast to known processes for producing the target compound which have problems, for example, that they cause environmental pollution and are low in yield. The process comprises reacting cyanamide with a C1-8 alcohol in the presence of sulfuric acid to obtain an O-alkylisourea and reacting it with ethyl trifluoroacetoacetate in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide.
