PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rewritable commutative type magnetic recording medium for large capacity satisfying the magnetic property, running durability, low cost, productivity, etc. SOLUTION: This medium has a feature that a substrate layer, a magnetic layer consisting of a ferromagnetic metal alloy containing at least a cobalt, platinum and chrome, and a non-magnetic component of at least one kind selected from a tellurium oxide, indium oxide, tin oxide, gallium-zinc oxide, copper-zinc oxide, zirconium oxide and fluorides amorphous, while having the surface resistivity of 0 to 200Ωper square, and a protecting layer consisting of a hard carbon film formed by using a CVD method of direct bias voltage applying system with respect to a surface of this magnetic layer, are provided in this order on at least one surface of a non-magnetic support.
