A vehicle includes a door lock apparatus for locking and unlocking vehicle doors, a door status detector for detecting opening and closing movement of the vehicle doors, an alarm actuator for generating an alarm-actuating signal, and an alarm unit for generating an alarm output. A controller is responsive to the alarm-actuating signal from the alarm actuator so as to control the door lock apparatus to ensure that the vehicle doors are locked, activate the alarm unit to generate the alarm output, and to subsequently control the door lock apparatus to unlock the vehicle doors after a predetermined time period has elapsed since activation of the alarm unit. The controller subsequently terminates activation of the alarm unit upon detection by the door, status detector of opening and closing movement of the vehicle doors, indicative of a condition that a passenger has alighted the vehicle. |
