A fortified foodstuff comprises a food stuff or beverage and a fortifying amount of an inorganic compound prepared form sources of ferrous iron, phosphate and ammonium. Preferably the inorganic compound is FeNH4PO4. Also described is a fortified food stuff comprises a food stuff or beverage and a fortifying amount of an inorganic compound prepared form sources of ferric iron, phosphate and ammonium, wherein the inorganic compound comprises a weight ration between iron, ammonia and phosphate groups of about 1:(0.8-1.75):(3.5-5). Preferably the food stuff is a cocoa and/or coffee containing milk, beverage, powdery product or liquid nutritional product or a juice. Also described are processes for preparing the food stuff.
