PURPOSE: A method for reproducing replaced recording data of an optical disk is provided to previously read alternatively recorded data to store the data, and to continuously read/reproduce the stored data with data normally recorded in a data area of an optical disk, thereby preventing a discontinuous reproduction screen from being displayed. CONSTITUTION: A VDP(Video Disc Play) system reads alternatively recorded data, and temporarily stores the read data in a memory(S20). If a user requests a data reproduction process to be performed, the VDP system sequentially reads data normally recorded in a data area(S21). If a defect area is detected while carrying out the reproduction process, the VDP system searches/reads the temporarily stored data while an optical pickup does not move to a spare area, or receives the stored data to alternatively reproduce the data(S22). The VDP system sequentially repeats the alternative data reproduction process until the data reproduction process is terminated(S23-S25).
