PURPOSE: A tension type cathode ray tube is provided to allow for ease of control of compression and welding of spring, while reducing the weight of a shadow mask assembly. CONSTITUTION: A cathode ray tube comprises a panel having an inner surface on which a phosphor screen is formed; a funnel connected to the panel; a tension type shadow mask spaced apart from the phosphor screen formed on the inner surface of the panel, and which discriminates colors; a frame including two main frames(7) for supporting the shadow mask and two sub frames(8) for supporting both ends of two main frames; and a spring(10) for connecting the frame and the panel. The sub frame is bent upward toward the front surface of the panel. Each of the sub frames has a lower support portion attached to the main frame, a bent portion(8-4), and an upper support portion(8-5) connected to the lower support portion.
