PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the tip portion of a radial scanning ultrasonic endoscope, which can be inserted well with a fully rounded ridge line section of its outer fringe, can fix a balloon without fail, and can extend backward a sufficient number of signal lines at its rear part. SOLUTION: The tip end side section 12a of an optical system holding body 12 is made large enough not to go through the inside of an ultrasonic head unit 11 and a filling and drain port 4 to a balloon 10 is made at the outer circumference of the tip side section 12a. At the same time, a filling and drain conduit line 3 that connects to the filling and drain port 4 is passed backward from the optical system holding body 12, and the optical system holding body 12 is put through an ultrasonic head unit 11 from its rear end, and fixing members 18A, 18B, and 18C, which prevent the optical system holding body 12 from sliding forward and coming off out of the ultrasonic head unit 11, are engaged to a rear end section of the optical system holding body 12.
