Polyester film with base layer(s) (B) and matt outer layer(s) (A), shows a transverse shrinkage of 1-2.3% and a linear expansion (by TMA) of not more than 0.2% in the cross direction, and has a layer (A) which contains particles with an average diameter of (d50) of 2.0-10 microns and a SPAN98 value of not more than 2 plus a polyester with 4-30 mol% isophthalic acid units. An Independent claim is also included for a method for the production of polyester film as described above by coextruding multilayer film, forming the melt into flat melt film and then biaxially stretching and heat-fixing the film.
