<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which provides an image of high quality by preventing the occurrences of the distortion and the blurring or the like of a formed image even when performing copying work in a state that a user holds an original placed on an original platen by hand, the image forming apparatus which reads the image data of the original placed on the original platen and forms the image on recording paper based on the read image data. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus X is provided with a detecting means to detect that the original on the original platen 5 is stopped and a controlling means to form the image on the recording paper on an assumption that the detecting means detects the stoppage of the original.
