PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a dark region on a light incident surface side as small as possible without lowering the luminance in the central portion of a light transmission plate in the case the light incident surface of a hollow groove shape is formed at the light transmission plate and a chip type LED 20 is arranged therein. SOLUTION: The back light system of a side light type which is formed with a light incident surface 110 of the hollow groove shape in the portion of the light transmission plate 10 facing a light source and which uses the chip type LED 20 as the light source is constituted by defining the width of a light exit aperture 21a of the chip type LED 20 as W and forming a flat surface 111 of the width 0.3 to 0.5W in the central part of the light incident surface 110 and by consecutively installing curved surfaces 112 curved at prescribed curvature to both ends of the flat surface 111.
