PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveform determining method for performing acceptability decision on measurement values of an input signal while providing specific recognition on the degree of margin and degree of deficiency of the measurement values. SOLUTION: According to this waveform determining method, whether a measurement value V1 is acceptable or not is determined by comparing the measurement value V1 of an input signal S1 with an acceptable range A1 while at least one is calculated and reported of the degree of margin of the measurement value V1 relative to an upper limit value U1 or a lower limit value L1, and the degree of deficiency of the measurement value V1 relative to the limit value U1 or the limit value L1. The ratio of a difference IB1 between the limit value U1 and the measurement value V1 to a difference IA1 between the limit value U1 and the intermediate value M1 is calculated as the degree of margin or the degree of deficiency relative to the limit value U1 when the measurement value V1 exceeds an intermediate value M1 in the acceptance range A1. The ratio of a difference between the measurement value V1 and the limit value L1 to a difference between the intermediate value M1 and the limit value L1 is calculated as the degree of margin or the degree of deficiency relative to the limit value L1 when the measurement value V1 does not exceed the intermediate value M1.
