PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve miniaturization and cost reduction of an apparatus body by selectively feeding members to be recorded and members to be read and operating a moving means by one driving source, in an image reading and recording apparatus such as a facsimile machine. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is provided with a transfer motor 104; recording paper feeding unit for feeding recording papers; recording unit for recording an image on a recording paper fed from the recording paper feeding unit; original feeding unit for feeding originals; reading unit for reading image of an original fed from the original feeding unit; reading driving switching means 155 for transmitting the driving force to the original feeding unit; and moving means 155, 156 and 157 being positioned outside a recording region where the recording unit records an image on a recording paper, to move the reading unit to a reading position for reading an original by the driving force of the transfer motor.
