PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing an optically active 1,3-butanediol-1-benzyl ether derivative. SOLUTION: The method comprises bringing a microorganism having stereoselective oxidation capability or a treated product thereof into contact with an enantiomer mixture of the 1,3-butanediol-1-benzyl ether derivative of the general formula(I) to oxidize one of the enantiomers and collecting the remaining optically active 1,3-butanediol-1-benzyl ether derivative as the other enantiomer, wherein the microorganism is preferably a microorganismal species belonging to the genus Bacillus, being Bacillus cereus.
