The lid ring production process involves deforming a sheet metal strip with parallel side edges into a tube and welding the side edges to each other. The tube is cut into equal-length sectors divided by cuts with edgings (26, 28) in parallel planes. The tube sectors are deformed into lid rings (30), one edging forming an outer rim (32) to connect to the can body, and the other rolled in on the side without the heat-seal coating, which is applied to the finished ring.
