The device has an absorbing layer (18) formed between a transparent anti-reflective layer (20) and an internal layer to absorb a particular wavelength of excitation light (14). The transparent anti-reflective layer is formed as a piling of layers on a face of a support (10). The layer (20) has a refractive index nearly equal to the square root of refractive index of the support. Chromophore components (12) are illuminated by the excitation light (14) to emit fluorescence at wavelength different from the wavelength of the excitation light.
