1,231,899. Treating oil on water. ATLAS COPCO A.B. 24 Dec., 1968 [5 Jan., 1968], No. 61399/68. Heading B7A. [Also in Divisions C1 and F4] A method of combating an oil layer on water comprises directing jets of combustion-sustaining gas on an oil zone, igniting the oil in the zone, and allowing displacement of the zone relative to the rest of the layer. Floating element 23 comprises flexible pipes 24 of plastics which contain openings 22 and are submerged by weights 25 so that the openings are at the oil level. The element is secured by wires 21 to a metal framework 12 which is carried by floats 13 and is secured by wires 15 extending through floating booms 17 to vessels 14. Air compressors 27 supply elements 23 via hoses 26. The gas oil mixture is ignited by torches or by electrical ignition coils 28 on the tubes 24. Fuel may be supplied to nozzles 33. In Fig. 6 (not shown) air bubbles from a perforated tube 37 effect a barrier. |
