A system (10) for the distribution and presentation of audio-visual material is disclosed. A headquarters site (12) receives audio-visual media (14). This media (14) is authored into a desired programming form, and encoded to be ready for distribution. The programming information is tagged as being intended for distribution to desired nodes over a private network (18) or, additionally, as being intended for distribution over a radio network (60). The programming information has two components: a playlist/schedule, and programming data in the form of text-based files and/or video-based files. Two bus depots (20, 22) represent nodes on the private network (18). When buses (30l, 40m, and 50n) return to a respective depot (i.e. are non-operational) they announce their presence and request transmission of the stored media to computer apparatus on-board the bus by a wireless local area distribution network When a bus is operational, the stored media is played in accordance with the playlist. The video component is presented on one or more screens located on the bus, and the audio content is made available by a low power radio transmitter within the bus. |
