PURPOSE: A method for preparing a tertiary butanol is provided, to improve reaction velocity, selectivity, space-time yield and isobutene conversion rate. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the step of reacting a homogeneous mixture comprising water, a tertiary butanol and isobutene on an acidic ion exchange resin at a temperature of 30-120 deg.C, wherein the mass ratio of isobutene exceeds 10 wt% and the ratio of water is 30-80 % of the possible maximum amount of water based on the solubility of water in a reaction mixture. Preferably the reaction is carried out by using a plurality of reactors connected in serial, and water is introduced between the reactors. Preferably the temperature of the reactors connected in serial is reduced to the flowing direction. Preferably some of the tertiary butanol obtained by the method are recirculated.
