Disclosed is a method of modulating neutralizing antibodies formation against a heterologous protein. The method may be used to induce tolerance of the immune system towards the protein, such tolerance being useful to allow long-term gene therapy or transgene expression. The may also be used to provide an animal with a reproducible functional inactivation phenotype of an endogenous protein of the animal.
