PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized position detecting device capable of keeping sensitivity intact using a surface mounted element having a magnetism detecting element. SOLUTION: The magnetism detecting element 61 is mounted on a substrate 7. When a detected body 9 is close to a position outside both extending sections 10a and substantially parallel with the extending direction and comes into a detected region, the magnetic flux of a magnet 10 is rectangular to the substrate 7.
