The box-section rail (2) has a U-section portion (5) acting as a stator harness. It has rows of holes (10) in the sides accommodating bolts (13) passing through tubes (12) passing through holes (11) in the stator packets (16). The stator core (6) has a castellated edge to accommodate electrical coils and several packets may be assembled end-to-end.
