A safety device of an electric oven is disclosed, which is provided to prevent a door from being open when a temperature inside an oven cavity is high. The safety device includes a latch (610) protruding from an inner side of the door (600) towards the oven cavity (200). The safety device comprises means (420,500) provided at the oven cavity (200) for activating - depending on a predetermined temperature inside the oven cavity (200) - a lever (430) into engagement with the latch (610) when the door (600) is closed, thereby preventing opening of the door (600). A hole (210) is provided in a front part of an oven cavity forming a cooking room therein and the latch can be inserted into the hole when the door is closed. In one embodiment a rotation motor (420) is provided in an upper part of the oven cavity, the lever is rotatably coupled with an axis of the rotation motor, and a temperature sensor (500) is provided for measuring a temperature inside the oven cavity. <IMAGE>
