PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp equipped with a small translucent ceramic discharge vessel suitable for collection of light; and to provide a high-pressure discharge lamp lighting device and a lighting system using it. SOLUTION: This high-pressure discharge lamp HPDL is equipped with the translucent ceramic discharge vessel 1 with both ends opened; a pair of metal pipes 2, 2 used for closing both the ends of the discharge vessel 1 by inserting their opening parts on the tip sides into the ends of the discharge container 1 to be sealed, and facing to each other at a distance LMbetween the tips with base end sides exposed to the outside of the discharge vessel 1 and sealed; a pair of electrodes 3, 3 having base end parts each connected to and supported by the sealed part of the base end side 2b of the metal pipe 2, and having tip parts facing to each other at a distance G and projecting in the discharge vessel 1; and a discharge medium enclosed in the discharge vessel 1.
