PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning method capable of easily and reliably cleaning a heat and pressure applying means in an image forming apparatus, and to provide an image forming apparatus used in the same. SOLUTION: The cleaning method comprises at least a heat and pressure applying step in which a cleaning sheet is fed to an image forming apparatus and heat and pressure are applied by a heat and pressure applying means to remove contaminant sticking to the heat and pressure applying means, wherein the heat and pressure applying means is at least one of a fixing belt and a fixing roller, the cleaning sheet comprises a support and a thermoplastic resin layer comprising a thermoplastic resin on the support, and the cleaning sheet satisfies at least one of the expressions L1(cm)>L2(cm) and L1(cm)>L3(cm), where L1 is the length of the cleaning sheet in the feed direction; L2 is the peripheral length of the fixing roller; and L3 is the peripheral length of the fixing belt.
