PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recoding apparatus which can perform the optimum control of drive depending on load change caused by variations in components for each product and a variation with time. SOLUTION: This image recording apparatus records prescribed image data on a recording medium while bringing about a reciprocating motion (main scanning motion) of a carriage, equipped with a recording head 8, along the recording medium, and forms an image by carrying (subscanning) the recording medium by a prescribed amount in synchronization with the above motion. The image recording apparatus is equipped with a mechanical load measuring part 24 for measuring a mechanical load state of a main scanning/subscanning drive system in terms of each cumulative operation time of the apparatus or each cumulative operation amount thereof, when power is turned on after the start of an operation.
