An escalator, especially containing approximately vertically extending base areas and a plurality of steps arising from a continuous step belt. Said steps are formed by step areas, riser areas and receiving areas for rollers and the parts of transport means. The base areas extend in the transport area in such a way that the respective base area ends in the non-visible part of the overall step height. The receiving areas of the individual steps are guided around the free end of the respective base area. The length of the limbs of the receiving areas behind the base area is such that the projected surfaces of the axis areas of the rollers and parts of the transport means are arranged in such a way that they are located inside the transport area inside the overall height of the step belt. |
