<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system or the like to detect the ionization current in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: This control method includes a method and a device for delaying the spark timing, and a catalyst is rapidly heated during the cold start. In this control method, non-ignition of an engine is absent, and the delay limit of the engine is regulated during the cold start of the engine by using a closed loop so as to delay the spark timing of the engine as long as possible while the partial combustion is minimum. The raised exhaust temperature heats the catalyst more rapidly than a conventional open loop method, and emission of hydrocarbon is reduced. The closed loop type delay spark control using the ion current feedback comprises four main components or functions. In other words, the closed loop type delay spark control using the ion current feedback comprises an error gain generator, a proportion/integration control block, an initial set value spark timing processor, and an adaptable learning device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
