PURPOSE: A semiconductor laser diode and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to be compatibly operated for the DVD and HD-DVD disks in an optical recording and reproducing apparatus. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor laser diode includes a red laser diode chip(1100) and a blue laser diode chip(1200). The red laser diode chip(1100) is provided with a first buffer layer(1101), a first n-type clad layer(1102), a first active layer(1103) and a first p-type clad layer(1104). The blue laser diode chip(1200) is provided with a second buffer layer(1201), a second n-type clad layer(1202), a second active layer(1203) and a second p-type clad layer(1204). And, the red laser diode chip(1100) is formed on one side of the substrate and the blue laser diode chip(1200) is formed on the other side of the substrate.
