PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scroll compressor for preventing excessive compression, and controlling capacity. SOLUTION: This scroll compressor has a bypass mechanism 140 for bypassing fluid existing in an intermediate area between the suction side 109A and the delivery side 109B of a plurality of compression spaces P constituted by mutually meshing spiral partition walls 123 and 133 arranged in a fixed scroll 121 and a turning scroll 131. The bypass mechanism 140 includes bypass passages 143 and 144 and a bypass valve 146 for communicating with the intermediate area, and the bypass passages 143 and 144 branch off into a high pressure side bypass passage BH and a low pressure side bypass passage BL. A high pressure side opening-closing valve (a high pressure bypass valve 157 or a check valve 158) is interposed in the high pressure side bypass passage BH, and a low pressure side opening-closing valve (a low pressure side bypass valve and a solenoid valve 156) is interposed in the low pressure side bypass passage BL.
