PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make easy the installation and removal of a camera unit and to put its compact size into practical use. SOLUTION: When a unit housing part 17b is formed at the distal end 8 of an endoscope, and the camera unit 13 is placed in the unit housing 17b, a signal processing circuit element 16 provided at the rear end of the camera unit comes into contact with a face 17a formed at the rear end of the unit housing 17b. The signal processing circuit element 16 is formed from a ball element, and electrodes 19a are provided along a rear side end spherical surface 16a thereof. On the other hand, the rear end surface 17a is formed along the spherical surface of signal processing circuit element 16, and electrodes 19b connected with the electrodes 19a is provided on its inner circumferential surface. Since both electrodes 19a and 19b are spherical-shaped, they can secure large contact surface areas and are easy to be connected to each other, facilitating the simple installation and removal of the camera unit 13. Further, the signal processing circuit element 16 made of a ball element is available at so high a density that the entire camera unit 13 can be reduced in size. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
