The invention relates to a sling band (20) for lifting loads. The sling band is comprised of a first band (3), of a second band (3') and of overlapping areas (7, 7'), whereby the ends of the bands (3, 3') lead into the overlapping areas (7, 7'). The first band (3) comprises first warp threads (8) and the second band (3') comprises second warp threads (8'), whereby the warp threads (8, 8'), together with weft threads, form a first and a second weave whereas, in the overlapping areas (7, 7'), the warp threads (8, 8') are joined to one another where they form a web construction with the weft threads. Said web construction comprises at least one additional third weave that differs from the first and second weave. A portion of the warp threads (8, 8') has a lower melting point than that of the remaining warp threads thus enabling the interwoven overlapping areas (7, 7') to be subsequently provided with an increased strength by means of a weld. The invention also relates to the use of sling bands of the aforementioned type in skiing sports, climbing sports and in lashing straps.
