<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture display device and a picture display method by which an observer can view a picture including not only a two-dimensional picture but also three-dimensional picture display by forming a picture displayed on the screen of a two-dimensional display device at a specified position in picture element units or in picture element group units. <P>SOLUTION: The picture display device is equipped with a lens array 12 consisting of variable focus lenses 121 at the position of a distance S1 from the display surface 11 of a two-dimensional picture display means and a means for changing the focal distance of the lens 121. A lens composed of liquid crystal, for instance, is used as the variable focal lens 121 and its focal distance is controlled by applying voltage to two electrodes holding the liquid crystal in between. Then, information to control the focal distance is given simultaneously with a picture signal to be displayed. Thus, the picture is formed at an independent position by every lens so as to form the entire picture, whereby the observer 15 can view a stereoscopic picture. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
