PURPOSE: A system and method for inputting characters in a mobile terminal is provided to add a character input function to direction keys and to generate character input signals through the operation of direction keys, to which appointed vowels are allocated, and numeric keys, to which consonants and vowels are selectively allocated, in inputting Hangul characters. CONSTITUTION: A system for inputting characters in a mobile terminal is comprised of an input part(1), a memory part(2), an output part(3), and a central processing part(4). The input part(1) generates a character input signal through the operation of a numeric key, to which one or more characters are allocated. The memory part(2) stores data for characters allocated to the input part(1). The output part(3) displays relevant data in real time according to the operation of the input part(1). The central processing part(4) reads relevant data stored in the memory part(2) according to the operation of the input part(1) and generates a signal to display the data through the output part(3).
