PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an increase in transmission loss due to the twisting from outside of an optical fiber unit by enhancing the strength of adhesion of a tensile body and coating layer of a tension member. SOLUTION: The tension member 3 consists of a structure obtained by covering the tensile body 3 subjected to drawing with the coating layer 3, is arranged at the center of the optical fiber unit 1 and is spirally wound with a plurality of optical fibers 5 around the outer periphery thereof, in which the surface staining of the tensile body 32 prior to covering with the coating layer 33 is confined to≤0.015 g/m2.
