PURPOSE: An adaptive digital image recorder and a control method thereof are provided to store only motion information of a current frame with respect to a previous frame by wavelet transform, motion band segmentation and motion detection. CONSTITUTION: A wavelet transform unit(100) segments digital image data of a current frame according frequency bands. A motion band segmenting unit(200) segments the current frame into a high frequency domain and a low frequency domain according to the digital image data segmented by the wavelet transform unit(100). A motion detecting unit(300) generates fractal coefficients from the image data of the low frequency domain of the current frame, compares the generated fractal coefficients with fractal coefficients of a previous frame, obtains difference values of the fractal coefficients, and obtains motion information of the current frame from the difference values. If the storage possible capacity of an image storing unit(900) is less than the first setup capacity which is less than the half of the total capacity of the image storing unit(900), an adaptive storing control unit(700) obtains a motion weight value of the current frame from motion information of the motion detecting unit(300). The adaptive storing control unit(700) does not store or stores motion information of the current frame in the image storing unit(900) according to the motion weight value of the current frame. |
