Network with shared caching

摘要

A directory server (17) maintains a directory (16) of data cached in shared cache of local stations (12). A query unit determines whether data requested by a second subset of local stations are cached in cache memory (20) of first subset of local stations. The system is arranged to seek required data from external database when it is determined that required data are not cached in shared cache. An independent claim is also included for a method of operating a computer system.
