The invention discloses a sub-rate transmission method of user data service in transmission apparatus of WAN. The method includes the steps: configuring ea ch transmission apparatus in advance, forming the custom labels and the forward table item corresponding to the transmission lines. After receiving the data frame of user, the initial transmission apparatus nests the said custom labe l into the data frame of user to form the custom data frame, then transmits th e custom data frame. After receiving the custom data frame, the terminal transmission apparatus determines the output port for transmitting the data frame by finding the forward label item according to the nested custom label , then deletes the nested custom label, and transmits the original user data frame to the determined output port. The invention can greatly expand the quantity of the virtual LAN supported by WAN by nesting a custom label, thereby promotes the further development of WAN, also simplifies the label arrangement of user data and provides the more advantages to the user.</SDOA B>
