PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuously variable valve device for an internal combustion engine capable of stably controlling the valve lifting amount with high accuracy. SOLUTION: This continuously variable valve device is provided with a holding lever 18 for oscillatably holding an oscillation fulcrum point of an oscillating lever on a position to regulate a valve close state, at a side part of the oscillating lever 15 in a state that its upper end part is connected to the oscillation supporting point A of the oscillating lever through a shaft part 17 and its lower end part is supported by a cylinder head 1 at a position to regulate the valve close state. A coil spring member 24 is fitted to the circumference of the shaft part connecting upper end parts of the oscillation lever and the holding lever to give the energizing force in the expanding direction to the oscillation lever and the holding lever on the shaft part, and the spring force corresponding to a relative angle is given to the oscillation lever and the holding lever, for constantly fixing the oscillation supporting point on a circular arc path on the position to regulate the valve close state by the holding lever during the oscillation of the oscillation lever.
