A pile article (10) is provided having a band (24) of textile material, and a plurality of fiber loops defining a pile (19) having sides (22c) from ends (22a, 22b) extending longitudinally along the band (24). The band (24) is ultrasonically welded to the ends (22a, 22b) and a portion of the sides (22c ) of the pile (19), and is sufficiently wide to support the sides of the pile substantially upright. An interior textile strip (16) may optionally extend longitudinally within the pile (19) at the ends (22a, 22b) of the pile and within a portion of the pile sides (22c).
