PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a workpiece retaining device with easy attachment/detachment to a machine tool capable of accurately carrying out axis-aligning of a spindle of the machine tool and a retaining device. SOLUTION: In the retaining device detachably mountable to the spindle of the machine tool and gripping the workpiece, position adjustment parts 31, 32 for making a center axis of the retaining device coincident with a center axis of the spindle by abutting on a part of an inner peripheral cylindrical surface 30 formed at a tip of the spindle 2 and a resilient member 33 for pressing the position adjustment parts 31, 32 to the inner peripheral cylindrical surface 30 are provided.
