PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cigarette paper effective for lowering the spontaneous burning speed of a cigarette without giving influence on the taste of the cigarette by a relatively simple means. SOLUTION: A cellulosic paper containing a filler for controlling the burning property of a cigarette is treated with an acid-based treating agent containing an organic acid and/or an inorganic acid as an active component.
