Method for updating the operating system (BSALT) of an electronic unit, especially a mobile communications terminal (PBX), in which the operating system is stored in non-volatile memory and is loaded into volatile memory (DRAM) during operation. The update method has the following steps: storage of the software update in a memory card (MMC 2); connection of the card to the device to be updated; storage of operating data (BD) in the card memory; restarting of the device using the new operating system (BSNEU) loaded in RAM and; finally re-transfer of the operating data into RAM.
