Method for navigation calibration of X-ray image data has the following steps: an X-ray image is recorded with a calibration instrument (C) placed in a medical navigation system; localization structures are used to record the position of the calibration instrument without the a patient; carrier and localization structure are removed from the calibration instrument; a patient radiograph is recorded; and calibration information from the image of the localization structure are used to correct the images.
