The device has a high pressure pump, a feed pump, a fuel proportioner, and a pressure valve with valve piston (72). The valve piston is symmetrical and has a journal (74) at both ends. Between the journals, the piston has two guide collars (76) to guide it sealing in a bore (66) in the valve body (60). A recess (78) of smaller diameter is located between the collars. The bore is a through bore, and has a closure part (82) inserted from one end, on which the valve spring (80) is supported. The element defines a space (86) connected to a relief area via a further bore (70) in the valve body.
