PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce rattling noise from a gear shaft driving gear train produced according to a variation in torque of a camshaft when the camshaft is rotated without separately installing such a torque variation offsetting cam as described in document Laid-open No.6-42314. SOLUTION: This noise reduction device comprises a camshaft 1 driven by a gear, a flange 2 provided on the camshaft 1, and flange storage holes 4 and 6 storing the flange 2. Thrust hammering noise of the camshaft 1 is reduced by feeding lubricating oil into the flange storage holes 4 and 6. A variation in torque of the camshaft is suppressed by forming the cross section of the flange 2 in a non-circular shape to increase the rotational resistances of the camshaft 1 and the flange 2.
