A through terminal for mounting in a hole in a circuit board 32 comprises a flat-sided pin 12 of, e.g. square or triangular cross-section and a cylindrical ferrule 16 closely fitted around a medial portion of pin 12 and secured to the longitudinal edges of the pin by solder joints 18. Preferably the pin has pyramidal ends and both the pin and the ferrule are soldercoated. After insertion in the hole the ferrule has its end portions secured and bent by tools 36 to form the reverse bend segments 42 engaging the board. The portions may be deformed to form outwardly bowed collars (68), (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown) or to form double thickness flanges (70), (Fig. 11, not shown). In another embodiment the end portions of the ferrule have longitudinal slits (82) extending beyond the board surfaces to form flanges (92) on being pressed by tools (88). Subsequently the board is soldered and the spaces between the pin and the ferrule and the ferrule and the board are filled with solder. |
